I have lost my picture icons on my desktop on Windows 8. It shows up with my PSP icon on all my pictures. Any ideas?

It sounds like you can just change the file associations. Here's an article on how to do it in Windows 8...

In fact, this is very handy if you don't want your music, videos and photos opening in the Metro style apps and just on the desktop.
